Closure of Obasanjo farms, others not political - Oyo govt
The Oyo State government on Thursday said the closure of Obasanjo Farms in the Oluyole Estate area of Ibadan was not political. It said more than 400 other businesses were also sealed for their failure to pay the state’s Environmental Development Levy after several notices were served on them.
“Our process and procedures are not driven by political consideration, we work for the state government and the intention is to bring in revenue following the due process,” he said.
“There was enforcement and we stopped activities at Obasanjo Farms. It was not done politically but because that organisation did not pay what it was supposed to pay and I am glad to tell you that the company, just like many others affected, have come back to pay what they are supposed to pay and the business premises have since been re-opened. Our system is not political. People should not give political colouration to our efforts.”
He further urged Nigerians to separate statutory duties and functions from politics.
Mr Alli noted that payment of taxes is statutory and moral duty, which is the civic responsibility of all citizens.
“There is no relationship between tax payment and politics as far as we are concerned and we do the needful whoever is involved we make sure they pay,” he said.
